Ramsay Health Care rules Australia’s private hospital industry. As the continent’s largest private hospital group, the company operates more than 220 hospitals and day surgery facilities in Australia as well as in Europe and Asia. With roughly 25,000 beds and 60,000 employees, Ramsay hospitals provide care for just about any medical or surgical problem for which a patient may need treatment. Acquisitions (at home and abroad) have boosted the company’s holdings, and while about half of Ramsay’s hospitals are in Australia, the company is intent on expanding into new international markets. Ramsay was established in 1964 as a psychiatric hospital by Paul Ramsay.
