Because driving yourself to the emergency room isn’t always the best plan, there is American Medical Response (AMR). With thousands of vehicles in some 40 states, AMR is the largest contract provider of 911 emergency response and non-emergency ambulance services in the US. Non-emergency services include transportation between health care facilities of medically unstable, wheelchair, and other patients. The company transports around 3 million patients annually for local government agencies, hospitals, and other customers. For its 911 emergency response services, AMR typically contracts with cities and counties. Envision Healthcare sold AMR to buyout firm KKR in 2018.
